New for 2011 -- Boat Tours leaving from Wellesley Island

Three boat tours are now offered from Wellesley island State Park:

Evening Boat Cruise
Saturdays, from 6:30-8:30pm. Departing from the Wellesley Island State Park Marina. This twilight tour takes passengers across the head of Wellesley Island toward the Rock Island Lighthouse between Alexandria Bay and Clayton. The tour goes upriver toward Clayton, New York, before heading west through Eel Bay just in time to catch the best sunset in the 1000 Islands. Admission is $14 for adults and $7 for children. Tours last two hours; passengers may bring evening snacks and beverages including beer and wine. Tickets are available by calling Clayton Island Tours at 315-686-4820 or at the Wellesley Island State Park store located near the beach and marina.

Boldt Castle & 2-Nation Tour
Daily, departing at 10:45am & 2:15pm from the Wellesley Island State Park Marina. This tour takes passengers completely around Wellesley Island. Tours go under two spans of the Thousand Islands International Bridge, through a stretch of the St. Lawrence River near Hill Island regarded as one of the most scenic in the region, past two lighthouses, by Alexandria Bay and Clayton, New York, and through tranquil Eel Bay. The tour includes a stop at historic Boldt Castle on Heart Island. Admission is $16 for adults and $8 for children. Castle admission rates are $7 for adults and $4.50 for children. Children under 6 are free at the castle. Tour lasts three hours. No passport required. Food and non-alcoholic beverages permitted. Ecology, Habitat and Birdwatching Tour
Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Departing at 10:30am from the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center at Wellesley Island State Park. This tour cuts across tranquil Eel Bay, home to ospreys, herons, loons and many fish viewable through the bay's clear, shallow waters. The tour passes through the narrow Picton Channel between Picton and Grindstone islands and takes passengers to the scenic shoreline of Clayton, New York. Passengers also view the Rock Island Lighthouse. Admission is $16 for adults and $8 for children. Tours last three hours; food and non-alcoholic beverages permitted. Cameras encourged. Tickets are available by calling Clayton Island Tours at 315-686-4820 or at the Wellesley Island State Park store near the beach and marina.
